Social Enterprise World Forum Event comes to Frankston!

Frankston Social Enterprise Hub at Chisholm Institute held a networking event on 12 July in conjunction with the Social Enterprise Network of Victoria to celebrate the Social Enterprise World Forum coming to Brisbane in September.

At the event, Phil Hayes-Brown, CEO of Wallara, spoke about the series of social enterprises his organisation operates that enable people with intellectual disabilities to gain employment opportunities that might otherwise not be open to them. They include a 40 acre farm in Baxter on the Mornington Peninsula, a production company that creates video content for third parties and a logistics company. Phil said that people with intellectual disabilities are “the largest group on the NDIS and the least understood”.

Attendees were also delighted to have the chance to hear from Peta Murphy MP, Federal Member for Dunkley, who spoke about the importance of social enterprises. She said, “When I listen to what social enterprises do, and when you talk about social enterprises, it seems to me that they take the best of business and apply it for a social outcome”.

Frankston Social Enterprise Hub is working to activate the social enterprise ecosystem in the Southern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne and has been invited to act as a Community Hub for the Social Enterprise World forum which is taking place in September. Frankston Social Enterprise Hub will provide a space for the community to come together to view Social Enterprise World Forum content and have local conversations, while connecting globally.
