Social enterprise highlights from the Federal budget

Published On: May 20, 2024Categories: News1.3 min read

Social enterprise once again featured in the Federal Budget this year with:

  • $54million for paid employment pathways incl. “providing $21.9 million to support social enterprises and employers to engage job seekers through paid employment placements of up to six months.”
  • $1.5 million over two years to support the certification of an expected 500 Work Integrated Social Enterprises.

Great news for the social enterprise sector!

One of our local social enterprise leaders Phil Hayes-Brown (CEO, Wallara Australia Limited) said “Wallara Australia Limited now operates 5 certified social enterprises that are all creating meaningful jobs and pathways from supported to open employment for those who want to pursue it. Great to see the roles of Social Enterprises recognised like this”.

Matt, Andrew and Xanthe (our Collaborative Leadership Team) will continue to stay across current happenings and opportunities for social enterprises in our region.

This announcement reinforces what we have said in recent local budget submissions:

“Social enterprises exist to solve social and environmental problems, combining profit with purpose. We are inspired by the demonstrable impact social enterprises in our region are already having in the south east of Melbourne and excited by the obvious potential. At Frankston Social Enterprise Hub we are focused on building an enabling ecosystem for social enterprise and innovation, to support the development of a thriving social enterprise sector in the southeast”.

Things like this don’t happen by magic and we would like to thank all the organisations and social enterprises that have contributed incl. Whitebox Enterprises Ltd, Social Traders, Social Enterprise Australia and many others.
